I posted this last summer. It was one of my "worst dates ever" series.
I've been divorced for 5 1/2 years. I got everything in the divorce and got rid of my house, moved into an apartment to save money. One of my neighbors was going through a divorce and once his was final, he asked me out. I hesitated, but accepted none the less.
He pick's me up and we head to the movies. My mother always told me to never go on a date without having cash on my person. I should have listened. He buy's our tickets and we take out seat's.
We were sitting there making small talk and watching everyone arrive. I am a back row sitter and could see everyone. That's when I noticed all the icee's and started getting thirsty. Oh how the thirst was taking over. I didn't say anything at first, I just sat there talking and watching.
That's when I asked...Do you think you could buy me an icee?
Date: I bought the ticket's, don't you think you should buy the snack's?
I just sat there speechless. I didn't know what to say. I knew I didn't have any cash...Oh, I'm sure I had a few dollars worth of change in the bottom of my purse, but wtf?
Finally I was able to utter...You are absolutely correct. I left my seat, walked down the stairs and dug my cell phone out of my purse. I called a cab and left his sorry ass sitting there.
Was I wrong? Had I been out of the dating scene for so long the rules had changed? Don't get me wrong. I am not a gold digger. I always thought that the person asking should pay. If I had asked him out, I would have paid. Back in my younger years I asked someone out. I was going to pay, but he wouldn't let me.
Did I miss something? What do you think?

You Rock Manny!
He didn't deserve even his brief few moments with you sweetie!
OH YEAH!
I'm back in Manny's saddle again!!
All Things are Back in their proper perspective!
g-You're silly. Sadly enough, this post was just one of many. Sigh.
And you wonder why I give up?
btw, you never left my saddle.
Next time, maybe I'll post about Mr. Vermont.
Manny?
Big Deal, theres only 40 people in the whole state of Vermont.....
But I would love to hear it!!
( I never left Manny's saddle....)
Well, out of the 40, I'm sure I went out with the only loser.
Hey Manny if your still up I just posted.....
If not,
Good Night Manny xxxx
Good Night Grace o
Coffee in the Morning?
You know with this being the first date I think he should have payed since he asked. If this was later down the line then I think sharing might be OK. Of course he was as rusty at it as you where. Maybe he did not realize what he did. Of course when you did not come back I think he got the point.
g-yeppers, I headed for bed. On my first cup and the future is looking bright. 50's and 60's with sun the next 2 days.
Barman-I am sure was was rustly, probably still is. He was pretty arrogant when he said it and wasn't even my type. I shouldn't have gone out with him in the first place.
Hello, manny!
This post is very good, thank you
have nice wkend
Mornin Manny,
Hope all is well with you this Great Day!
You were up late......
So if you had asked him to pay you for sexual favors, would that have been rude?
I'm kidding!
I've missed you!!!
I would buy you an icee, popcorn and candy.
Would you make out with her too?
Would you try and slip her the tongue?
David-Hello, and welcome.
sign-I missed you too. He wouldn't have even gotten close.
g-Make out with who? Are you drinking again?
G, if Manny and I weren't so fond of the manly tools, then maybe we'd think about making out. I suppose then you would want an invitation.
Yes I would want an invite...
Hell yes!
Manny sweetie, you have a good day tomorrow, we won't be able to talk much, since I no longer blog at work, and I have to work late..
Good Night Manny xx
Good Night Grace o
My jaw dropped when I read his comment.
He asked you out on a date, that means he covers everything..
what a pig!
I like how you left him sitting there, good for you.
Tc
No I don't think you were wrong. Where were his manners? Or whoever's manners....when someone take you to the movies (HE asked you on the date) when you are walking past the concession stand, he should have asked you..."can I get you anything before we sit?"
Loser! I would have done the same thing in fact, I have ditched dates.
Or you could have gotten one yourself and some candy or whatever and sat there and ate it without offering him any.
Kudos to you girl!
Loved Jenns comment...lol
xo
Well, I haven't dated since before the invention of the wheel but I do very well remember the worst one I ever had. It was a fix up with a friends boss. He'd seen me when I was there to have lunch with her and asked her to set him up. So she asked me as a favor to her to go out with him just once.
GAK!
I knew it was trouble when the guy showed up with his shirt unbuttoned to the waist almost, wearing several gold chains around his scrawny neck.
Soon as he started showing me off to the piano player and crap I decided I'd had enough. I excused myself to go to the restroom, when I got there I climbed up on the back of a toilet and out the window.
Sadly, I didn't have cab fare or a car. Getting back to where I lived at the time was it's own adventure but...it was soooo worth it.
LMAO, You all make me laugh. Thanks.
I can see crabby standing on the toilet climbing out the window, that is so damn funny.
Hi Manny!!
Oh that is a funny story Crabby...laughing at the visuals...hahaha
Topcat and Jillie, pssst. if I had a nickle for every window I ever climbed out of...well ok. I'd still be poor cuz I'd of already spent it on ice caps but...it would be alot before I drank it.
manny..good morning, I hope your Monday went well for you.
tc
The guy was cheap. Better to ditch him than be with someone who's going to nickel and dime you all the time. You did the right thing.
